Data for the Top 100 list comes from information Defense News solicited from companies, from companies’ annual reports, from analysts, and from Defense News staff research.Companies were contacted by Defense News and asked to fill out a survey reporting their total annual revenue and revenue derived from defense, intelligence, homeland security and other national security contracts.Currency conversions for non-U.S. firms were calculated using average market conversion rates over each firm's fiscal year to mitigate the effects of currency fluctuations.RTI declined to participate, due to U.S. sanctions against Russia.* Company adjustments made to 2016 defense revenue during the subsequent year is not reflected unless otherwise noted.1 Total defense revenue is based on a percentage of total revenue given by the company.2 Northrop Grumman in July announced that Kathy Warden, Northrop's president and chief operating officer, will become CEO in 2019.3 In June 2017, Boeing launched its third business unit, Boeing Global Services. As a result of that transaction, the company restated defense-related revenue with the BGS component removed.4 In April 2018, General Dynamics completed acquisition of CSRA, ranked 39 on the 2017 Top 100 list. Because CSRA was already part of General Dynamics at the time that data collection for the 2018 Top 100, CSRA declined to participate.5 2016 defense revenue adjusted from 2017 Top 100 to reflect numbers submitted for 2018 Top 100.6 L3 restated 2016 earnings to account for Vertex as discontinued operations. 2016 defense revenue was adjusted accordingly.7 Defense revenue is based on percentage of total revenue as was reported for 2016.8 Rebranded in 2017. Previously known as DCNS.9 Due to corporate reporting schedule, Harris changed reporting since the 2017 Top 100 from fiscal to calendar year.10 Defense figures provided by the company equal to the total contract awards listed in USASpending.gov. Company financial information for fiscal 2017 not finalized in time for listing.11 Company acquired in March 2018 by Melrose Industries.12 Northrop Grumman completed its $7.8 billion acquisition of Orbital ATK Inc. in June 2018.13 KNDS includes defense revenue of KMW and Nexter Defense Systems.14 Fiscal year ends Feb. 2, 2018.15 Perspecta Inc. was launched on June 1, 2018 through the combination of DXC Technology’s U.S. Public Sector business, Vencore, and KeyPoint Government Solutions. Figures provided include fiscal 2018 financial data for DXC's public sector business, combined with Vencore Inc. and KeyPoint.16 In September United Technologies Corp. announced plans to acquire Rockwell Collins in a $30 billion purchase.17 Total revenue was unavailable for the company's most recent fiscal year.18 Defense revenue reflects awards made by the Japan Ministry of Defense for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018.19 Eric Trappier is CEO of Dassault Aviation. Serge Dassault, former chairman and CEO of Dassault Group, died May 28, 2018.20 Stephen Young retired as CEO in April 2018.21 Total defense revenue includes sales from domestic military and export business segments.22 Kongsberg holds 49.9 percent of the shares in Patria. Associated revenue included in Kongsberg total defense revenue.23 Daniel Mantsha resigned as chairman March 2, 2018.24 Patria's revenue includes 50 percent ownership of Nammo.25 Thomas Diehl, former CEO, died in April 2017.26 Patria owns 50 percent of Nammo.
